The most useful questions to ask before buying peptides for laboratory research are specific enough to answer in writing. Ask what will ship, which report covers that lot, what the order will cost and what the supplier will do if something arrives wrong. Use the same questions with each supplier so the answers are easy to compare.
This checklist is for laboratory research purchasing only. Research materials are not for human or animal use.
1. What exactly will ship?
Ask for the exact material name or identifier, format, labeled amount per unit and number of units in the package. If your laboratory requires a specific modification, salt form or other specification, include it in the request. Ask the supplier to confirm current availability and whether any substitutions can be made without your approval.
A listing that says “10 mg” does not necessarily tell you whether that amount refers to one vial or the entire pack. Ask the supplier to state both the amount per unit and the pack count, then record those details on the quote.
2. Can you send the report for the lot I will receive?
Request the complete certificate of analysis (COA) or laboratory report and ask how its sample identifier maps to the lot expected to ship. If the lot is assigned only when the order is packed, ask when you can review the report and what happens if that lot does not meet your requirements.
Ask which methods support identity, purity and any stated quantity. Those are separate questions. A purity figure alone does not verify the amount in the container or every other characteristic your laboratory may require. See the peptide quality verification guide for ways to check the issuer and report.
3. What is the final price for my exact order?
Ask for an itemized quote that shows the products and quantities, shipping, discounts and any other charges. If a coupon is part of the quote, confirm which items qualify, when the offer expires and whether it can be combined with any automatic promotion. Check whether the quote is in your expected currency and how long it is valid.
Use the guide to comparing peptide prices across vendors to put equivalent quotes on the same basis. If one supplier leaves shipping out, keep that cost marked as unknown until it is confirmed; a blank line is not free shipping.
4. What shipping and storage conditions apply?
Ask when the order is expected to ship, which service the supplier will use and which conditions are specified for this exact material in transit. Request the product’s storage instructions in advance so your laboratory can arrange receiving and designated storage.
Ask what evidence the supplier needs if the package arrives damaged, delayed or outside the documented shipping conditions. The guide to storage after delivery explains what to record at receiving.
5. Who handles order problems, and by when?
Get a support contact and the reporting deadline for missing items, damaged seals, wrong lots or a mismatch with the written quote. Ask whether the supplier offers replacement, credit or a refund in each case, and who is responsible for any return shipping. For research materials, follow your laboratory’s procedures while the supplier reviews the issue.
If the answer differs from the published policy, ask the supplier to clarify the exception in writing before you pay. Save the response together with the quote and order confirmation.
A message you can send before ordering
“We are evaluating [material and format] for laboratory research. Please confirm the amount per unit, pack count and available lot, and send the report that covers that lot. Could you provide an itemized delivered quote, including any applicable discount terms, plus the product’s shipping and storage instructions? Please also confirm your reporting deadline and procedure for an incorrect or damaged shipment.”
Put each answer beside the corresponding requirement. Mark unclear responses as unresolved and follow up on the specific gap. Once suppliers meet the same specifications and documentation requirements, compare delivered cost and timing.
